These tracks were made somewhere between 2015-2017 and have only been played in a select couple of shows, mainly due to my complete lack of confidence in making tooons. I’ve gradually come to accept that none of them will ever be finished, but should come to an end. I played them to my friend Asa about 2 years ago now, he gave me some amazing advice (of which I haven’t properly followed through, i’m sorry) The most valuable lessons I’ve learned have come from watching him work. Dom Servini was absolutely right when he told me to get on with it and just stick them out! I played them one night at Mondomix and after my set Dom and Adam smothered me in hugs and kisses, proper cuties.
Mill Copse was made after I’d moved from the Island to London. I was broke as fuck, missing my friends and family loads and dealing with the passing of one of my closest mates. Practically all samples were recorded in the kitchen of the house I was staying in with a beat up sm58, the only other audio used in the track was a Mbira loop and a couple of tones from a DB-60. I’d listen to this beat walking through over crowded streets and riding packed underground trains and it would transport me to being in Mill Copse in the spring time, walking in the sunshine with a spliff and my friends.
Cara was produced alongside my long time friend Sepia who’s also inspired me tremendously, I love you Theo! ♥️ I was living in Manor House and it was a really strange and hectic time and the couple of days we spent together making beats was super valuable to me. Another good friend of mine Kishon, who I ended up living with for the last few years, played Rhodes on this track and gave it life. Big ups geeza!
I was working as a sound engineer at the Forge in Camden when Federico Albanese was in town to perform. His show blew me away. He’s an incredible musician and was meticulous about the sound. His album ‘The Blue Hour’ (containing the original track) is a masterpiece. I’ve listened to the record countless times and made this edit of Migrants to play in sets after mixing the original in at a couple of shows.
